Like many riders all over the country, riders in South Lanarkshire have no choice but to ride on the roads. This is becoming more dangerous. For safety reasons, therefore, many riders and drivers look for off-road riding opportunities. Many others would like the opportunity to ride and drive along tracks, bridleways, drove roads or across fields as an alternative to the busy roads they are usually restricted to. SLHAPAG, set up in 1994, deals specifically with the issue of access for local riders and drivers of horses and ponies. Click here for routes in South Lanarkshire

Our aims:

The aims of SLHAPAG include:

• The protection, maintenance, improvement and, where possible, the creation of safe and enjoyable routes for everyone who wants to ride or drive horses or ponies in South Lanarkshire;

• Ensuring that the needs of the horse and rider are considered in any local authority plans, approvals for new roads, housing or other developments, country parks and recreational provision;

• Working and consulting with the British Horse Society, South Lanarkshire Council as well as farming, conservation, access and leisure organisations and any other national, regional or local bodies to achieve our aims;

• Encouraging all riders and drivers to be safe and considerate of other users;

• Holding social and educational events for members, including a programme of rides throughout the year.

You can help support this work by becoming a member of the Group. The annual subscription fee has been kept to the very minimum to cover costs of regular newsletters, notification of events and costs associated with meetings.
